Bruce Willis, an actor and musician is well-known for his hard-edged characters and humorous characters in action films. In total, he's appeared in films that have earned over $2.5 billion USD. Walter Bruce Willis was born on March 19, 1955, in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany, to a German mother, Marlene Kassel, and an American father, David Andrew Willis (from Carneys Point, New Jersey) they were living on the United States military base. His family moved to America soon following the birth of his son. He grew up in Penns Grove (New Jersey) where his mother was bank clerk while his father was an electrician and worked in a factory. Willis was interested in drama at the age of high school. When he worked at an New York City café, he was allegedly "discovered". Then, he began to appear in a handful of off-Broadway productions. One evening, Willis was working as a bartender and was noticed by a casting supervisor who liked his style of work. He was looking for a bartender to play one small part in a movie. Willis tried out for a variety of roles in films however, he was not given credit. He was eventually offered the role of David Addison, a private investigator, playing Cybill Shepherd, in the romantic comedy show Moonlighting (1985). His witty and sarcastic P.I. His humor-filled and wisecracking P.I. is often regarded as a test run to test his character John McClane, the hardboiled NYC detective in Die Hard (1988), in which Willis fight a group of ruthless international thieves at the top of a Los Angeles skyscraper. Willis reprised the role of McClane in the follow-up film, Die Hard 2 (1990), set at a wintery Washington's Dulles International Airport as a group of renegade Special Forces soldiers seek to bring back a corrupt South American general. The sequel, Die Hard with Avengeance (1995) was a success. The film starred Samuel L. Jackson as an unrepentant Harlem shopowner who is forced to assist McClane in a attack during a hot New York day.
