Rachel Anne McAdams
Rachel Anne McAdams is the daughter of
Sandra Kay (Gale), an Ontario nurse and Lance Frederick McAdams a truck driver
as well as furniture moving. Her birthplace was in London, Ontario on November
17th 1977. She is English, Welsh and Irish-born. Rachel began acting at
thirteen. She was already appearing in Shakespearean plays during summer
theatre camp. Rachel graduated with honors from York University with a BFA in
Theater. After making her television debut on Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson
in 1998, Rachel starred in Canadian TV's Slings and Arrows 2003. This
comedy-drama follows the struggle of Shakespearean theater groups. She won an
Gemini Award for her performance in 2003. Her breakthrough role in Mean Girls
(2004) as Regina George instantly landed her on the Hollywood's hot list of
promising young actors. She followed that film with the role of a major
character opposite Ryan Gosling in the adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks
bestseller The Notebook (2004) The Notebook was a huge box office hit and quickly
became the main romantic drama for a new younger generation of moviegoers.
Following filming, McAdams and Gosling became romantically involved and dated
through the middle of 2007. McAdams' next film was the comedy Wedding Crashers
(2006), the action thriller Red Eye (2004), as well as the holiday-themed drama
The Family Stone ((2005)). McAdams also explored independent films with Married
Life (2007) which was screened at the Toronto Film Festival. It also included
Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper in addition to Patricia Clarkson. McAdams
starred in The Lucky Ones (2007) and State of Play (2008) as well as State of
Play (2008). She also starred in the film The Time Traveler's Wife(2009) and
Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie's international hit Sherlock Holmes (2009).
McAdams was the fiery producer of a failed morning show on TV in Morning Glory
(2010), the materialistic fiancee of Owen Wilson in Woody Allen's Midnight in
Paris (2011), and returned to the romantic drama genre with the hit film The
Vow (2012) opposite Channing Tatum. McAdams plays the lead role in Terrence
Malick's To the Wonder (2012) together with Ben Affleck and Noomi Rapacace in
Brian De Palma's thriller Passion (2012).
